China Daily: Servant robot? Not just yet

    China Daily（Reported by Chen Zhiyong）: Fei Fei, a new robot created by Chinese scientists, is more of a entertainment robot than a useful servant. But it is being used to arouse a general interest among the public, particularly the young, and pave the way for greater advances in robotics.

　　It can speak, sing and dance. It can initate human emotions. In appearance it resembles a spaceman and goes b the cutesy name of "Fei Fie.".

　　Man-sized Fei Fei, an entertainment robot recently developed by a research team at the Institution of Automation under the Chinese Academy of Science, aims to present to the public a true picture of what the robots of today can actually do.

　　 "The increase of robot intelligence still lags far behind public expectations, because the process is hindered by a lack of understanding of the cognitive mechanisms of human beings," explained doctor Li Chengrong, the research team leader, "How to improve our robots ability to distinguish and differentiate against a background of normal external interference is ont of our major priorities," added Li.
